How much can I sell my old drum set for?
I bought a Black Ludwig 5piece Pearl Drum set in the summer of 2006 for $500 from Guitar Center and never really got around to learning or playing it. I’m planning to sell it ’cause I’m in need of cash. The drum head on the snare is torn and I think certain minor screws or other things are missing from the Cymbal Stand. Since its been sitting dormant for almost 3 years i’m sure the other drum heads need to replaced too. What I need to know is how much would someone be willing to pay for this? What would be a reasonable price to sell it for? $200 or $250 or $300. Also, what price should I start with and maybe bargain down to? I’d appreciate some advice from drummers on this. Thanks.
If any of the heads are damaged or need to be replaced that will bring the price down. Currently a cheap snare head runs in the range of $15-20. Tom heads will go from $15 on up and Bass drum heads…I don’t even think about those prices.
So if all the heads need replacing and some of the hardware is damaged/missing screws, that really messes with the price.
Honestly I would have to say you might get $200-$250 for it. Anything higher you’ll be waiting a while to sell it. Considering a beginner can walk into Walmart and buy one of their kits for around $300.
I would list the kit for $300 and then drop it by $50 after a week if it hasn’t sold. If you need the money soon, I would list it at $250 or best offer. I know you paid a lot for it. But really drum kits that aren’t used often and taken good care of (is it stored in a basement or garage? damp and moisture and fluctuating temperatures actually damage the wooden shells) depreciate in value very fast.
